Two-Day Magical and Private Iceland Elopement with Waterfalls, Fjords, and Picnic | Iceland Elopement Photographer and Specialist
There’s something so special about an elopement in Iceland that is just the couple, in a private and meaningful ceremony, overlooking a beautiful fjord.
I started photographing weddings almost 20 years ago (what, how) and I’ve been involved in my fair share of wedding days. Over 300, actually. I’ve been a part of weddings with 650 guests, down to just the usual 150 to 200 guests. I’ve been side-by-side with the couples in every type of wedding from the super-luxury where the flowers alone cost over 6-figures (yes, over $100,000 on flowers), to micro-weddings in quirky breweries, to weddings in theme parks.
By being included in all these different types of weddings, timelines, styles, family dynamics, and couples over the many years I have seen how the wedding day itself affects the couples.
Hand on heart, the most special days I have ever witnessed are elopements, which is why many years ago I dedicated myself to them.
Private elopements with just the couple create an environment of being present with one another, space to open up emotionally, and have their entire wedding day on their terms with an almost sacred vibe to the day- and Iceland offers the absolute best nature for this.
This Iceland elopement experience was a two-day adventure in many areas of Iceland. Here’s a little bit of what the couple thought of their day:
‘‘We had a discussion with Steph to talk about what kind of locations we wanted and felt like she listened to this and tailored our adventure to this. We had kleinur instead of a cake which was really cute and we loved that it was an Icelandic treat. We had a second day which was great as we got to go to totally different locations from the first day. ‘‘
With a private elopement, the timeline was open to do whatever they wanted. For their favorite parts of the day, the couple said:
‘‘A few bits come to mind: the getting ready photos were fun, we stopped at a service station and were given (Icelandic pastries) and the times we did dramatic wide shots - Steph told us to channel Wes Anderson vibes which we absolutely loved.
The first look was really special for us (and very emotional)! We also enjoyed going behind the waterfall, that was really magical.’’
Choosing to elope in Iceland was an easy decision for them.
They chose to elope because- ‘‘less drama more fun! We had been engaged for a long time but none of the traditional wedding stuff really spoke to us and felt like 'us'. As soon as we came up with this idea it felt right for us and it just felt easier.’’
The biggest surprise:
‘‘The amount of choice we had in terms of locations, we hadn't appreciated how much variation of landscape there was and how much the weather can change in a matter of minutes (this is good surprise because it creates amazing photos)’’
finally, what their favorite part of working with me was:
Her humor and positive energy - all of the advice and help were worth every penny. All the interactions with her were positive, fun and joyful. She helped make the experience really wonderful!
